Kuching, Sarawak"We booked the Family Records Visit after spending two weekends trying to sort my parents' documents ourselves and getting nowhere. The Trustlee team arrived, explained the process clearly, and by the afternoon we had a labelled folder system and an index page we could actually use. My mother, who is not comfortable with files, could read the index and find things herself. That alone was worth it."

Kota Samarahan"I was not sure the Heritage Reference Workshop was the right option for us — I thought we might just need the shorter visit. After talking to Nora, it was clear the workshop made more sense because we had photographs going back forty years. The day itself was thorough. A few things took longer than I expected, but the binder we ended up with covered everything. I would recommend they allow a bit more time if your family has a lot of loose photographs."

Kuching, Sarawak"We completed the Heritage Records Programme across five weeks. It was a proper piece of work — every session was well-paced and the facilitator was patient with my father-in-law, who wanted to talk through the history of each document. The final handbook is something the whole family now has a copy of. My only comment is that the scanning checklist could include a few more notes on file naming for those of us less experienced with computers, but that is a minor thing."

Kuching, Sarawak"The Family Records Visit helped us sort out what had been a very confusing mix of documents from two different households after my parents moved in with us. The team was straightforward and did not make us feel embarrassed about the mess. We now have one system for both households. Simple, and it works."

Petra Jaya, Kuching"I contacted Trustlee after inheriting responsibility for my late uncle's estate documents. I was not expecting anything particularly special — just someone to help me sort through boxes. What I got was a structured process that made sense of everything and left me with a printed index I could hand to the relevant parties. The session was calm and unhurried. I will use Trustlee again for my own household."

Kuching, Sarawak"My extended family did the Heritage Reference Workshop together — seven of us in total, which was one more than the usual maximum. The team accommodated us without fuss. The draft binder at the end covered three generations of photographs and certificates. It took longer than a standard day session, but we all left with a shared understanding of what we have as a family."
March 2025 · Heritage Reference WorkshopHousehold journeys in more detail
A household with records from two generations
A family in central Kuching had accumulated records from both the parents' and grandparents' households after a family move. Documents were stored across six different boxes with no grouping or labelling, and some older certificates were in both English and Chinese.
Heritage Records Programme, 4 weeks
Trustlee conducted four sessions over four weeks, beginning with a sort across all boxes and establishing two separate index streams — one for current household records, one for the grandparents' heritage materials. Bilingual labelling was used throughout.
A complete dual-index heritage handbook
The household received a printed heritage handbook covering 74 document categories across two generations, a complete folder system, and a scanning checklist for 43 items identified as candidates for digital backup.
"We had been meaning to sort through those boxes for three years. Trustlee made it feel manageable."
Heritage photographs with no context
A family with a collection of over two hundred photographs spanning fifty years had no labels, dates, or captions on any of them. The older family members had partial recollection of the subjects but no system had ever been created.
Heritage Reference Workshop, 1 day
The workshop was structured so that family members could contribute notes on photographs in real time while the facilitator organised and labelled them into a draft binder. Approximate date ranges were used where exact dates were unknown.
A labelled draft binder and context index
By the end of the workshop, 180 of the 230 photographs had been labelled with at least a decade and subject, and stored in a draft binder. The remaining 50 were set aside with a note for a follow-up session.
"My grandmother was able to identify people in photographs she had not seen for decades. It was a useful day in more ways than one."
